Alexander
William MacHardy est né en 1894 sur la Montagne de McLellan,
dans le comté de Pictou, en Nouvelle-Écosse ,
Canada.
Ses parents étaient Alexander Campbell MacHardy et Isabella Fraser MacHardy. Il avait quatre frères Evan, John, Duncan, et Henry, une sœur Marie .
Alexander William MacHardy aimait être appelé Billy. Il n'était pas marié et n'avait pas d'enfants. Il a grandi dans une ferme prospère.
Interessé par le vol, il rejoint la Royal Air Force et effectue sa formation de cadet à Fort Worth, au Texas, États-Unis.
Il a reçu ses ailes le 18 Avril 1918 et a été promu 2° lieutenant le 24 Avril 1918.
Il est affecté au 2°escadron de chasse le 7 Août 1918 dans le Sud-Est de la France en tant que pilote de chasse sur Bristol F. 2b
Il est affecté 154° escadron de chasse le 10 Septembre 1918, mais l'escadron est dissous et il est alors envoyé à 20° escadron de chasse le 18 Septembre 1918, également dans la région du Sud-Est de la France.
Sa dernière mission :
Le 10 Novembre 1918, le 2° Lieutenant MacHardy a quitté l' aérodrome d'Iris ( près de l'actuel Clary, France ) à 10h20, accompagné de sept autres avions Bristol, le 2° Lieutenant MacHardy volait sur Bristol F6195 avec son observateur le Lieutenant William Alexander Rodger du dix-huitième Régiment du Manitoba.
Leur mission était de soutenir une formation de De Havilland DH 9s pour un bombardement dans le sud du Hainaut près de Charleroi , en Belgique , où ils ont rencontré une grande formation de Fokker DVII Allemand du 50° Squadron.
Le duel a eu lieu à 35 km au nord-est de Froid Chapelle, un combat très dur avec quatre Fokkers, deux Bristol et cinq DE Havillands détruits.
Le 2° Lieutenant MacHardy a été abattu par le lieutenant commandant Hans von Freden de la Justa du 50° Squadron à environ 11h35. Selon Gaston Descartes, qui avait cinq ans à l'époque, l'avion de 2nd Lieutenant McHardy a connu des difficultés et s'est écrasé dans un champ à un kilomètre de la maison Descartes à Martinsart .
C'était la vingtième et derniere victoire de Freden lors de la Première Guerre mondiale.
Selon les historiens britanniques, 2nd Lieutenant MacHardy a été le dernier pilote de la Royal Air Force à être abattu au cours de la Première Guerre mondiale.
Alexander William MacHardy was born in 1894 at McLellan's Mountain, Pictou County, Nova Scotia, Canada. His parents were Alexander Campbell MacHardy and Isabella Fraser MacHardy. He had four brothers ( Evan, John, Duncan, and Henry), and one sister Mary.
Alexander William MacHardy liked to be called Billy. He was not married and had no children. He grew up on a prosperous farm, but was intrigued with flying. He joined the Royal Air Force and conducted his cadet training at Fort Worth Texas, United States .
He received his wings on April 18, 1918 and was promoted to second lieutenant on April 24, 1918. He was posted to 2 Fighter Squadron on August 7, 1918 in the South East area of France as a Bristol Fighter pilot, flying Bristol F.2b aircraft. He was posted to 154 Fighter Squadron on September 10, 1918, but the squadron was disbanded and he was sent to 20 Fighter Squadron on September 18, 1918, also in the South East area of France.
His last mission follows.
On November 10, 1918, Second Lieutenant MacHardy departed Iris Aerodrome (near present day Clary, France) at 1020, accompanied by seven other Bristol aircraft. Second Lieutenant MacHardy was flying Bristol number F6195 with his observer William Alexander Rodger of the eighteenth Manitoba Regiment. Their mission was to support a formation of De Havilland D.H. 9s on a bombing run in the South of Hainaut near Charleroi, Belgium, where they encountered a large formation of German Fokker DVIIs from the Justa 50 Squadron. The dogfight occurred 35 kilometres North East of Froid Chapelle, and was severe, with four Fokkers, two Bristols and five de Havillands being destroyed.
Second Lieutenant MacHardy was shot down by the Justa 50 Squadron's Lieutenant Commander Hans von Freden at approximately 1135. According to Gaston Descartes, who was five at the time, Second Lieutenant MacHardy's airplane experienced difficulty and crashed in a field one kilometre from Descartes home in Martinsart. It was Freden's twentieth and last victory of the First World War. According to British historians, Second Lieutenant MacHardy was the last Royal Air Force pilot to be shot down during the First World War.

Le point 1, l'endroit où une stèle est posée sur le mur de la ferme , là où a eu lieu la commémoration .

Ce 11 novembre 2018 à 11h, cimetière du Sud à Tournai, Le Captain Thomas MacHardy rendait un dernier hommage à Alexander William Mac Hardy dans la parcelle Commonwealth avant leurs retour vers le Canada .
On November 11, 2018 at 11am, South Cemetery in Tournai, Captain Thomas MacHardy and his wife paid last respects to Alexander William MacHardy in the Commonwealth parcel before returning to Canada .
La ville de Tournai c'est jointe à cette hommage en déposant 2 couronnes devant la tombe des aviateurs .
Jacques De Ceuninck à également déposé une fleur personnalisée en cet hommage entre les deux tombes .
The city of Tournai is attached to this tribute by depositing 2 crowns in front of the tomb of the airmen. Jacques De Ceuninck also deposits a personalized flower in this homage between the two graves .
